Tidal Locking plus Zombies
The planet rotates at the exact speed at which it orbits it’s star by a phenomenon called Tidal Locking. It does not have any satellites.
It rests just within the habitable Goldilocks Zone, and it exists further from the Sun than Nova Domus. As a result, it is much colder as a whole, except in the most extreme point always facing the Sun.
Granea was colonized within 50 years after Nova Domus was established. In Nova Domus’s infancy, there was a large need for energy sources, as resources taken from the home planet, Earth, were dwindling. Nova Domus contained minerals needed for construction, but very little sources for energy.
Probes detected a large amount of frozen Hydrogen and Helium: elements needed in Nuclear Fission. Granea was very rich in other minerals as well. The planet was nearly habitable in it’s natural state.
The colonists in Nova Domus started a 5-year long process to help terraform the planet. They added gasses to the atmosphere to shrink the central hot-spot and to expand the livable cold zone. In this time, the storms caused by the rapid heating and cooling of the air gained in strength, but they were left with a livable planet.
Weather and Biomes
The ‘center’ of the planet facing the sun is the hottest point on the planet. It is a dry desert with thick sands. The very center is craggy rock made from now-cool magma lakes and volcanoes. The weather is fairly calm, with occasional sandstorms. Not much moisture makes it past the
It is generally unsafe for ships to land in the colder parts of Nova Domus, due to both the cold and violent snowstorms.
